Outcome:
Based on the creative pitch and overall hard work of the team, Startist tied for first place and won the Tompkins Cup. However, the real outcome of this project was a greater knowledge of communication principles and hands on experience building a brand and working with others in a creative atmosphere.
The Process:
First year journalism students are tasked with with working in a team to create an innovative app. My group, created a fictitious e-commerce non-profit focused on connecting local artists with community members looking for original work called Startist.
My Role:
I served as the Pitch team director. In this role, I was in charge of creating finances, overseeing marketing efforts, and presenting the application to a panel of judges. In addition, all students were required to write feature length stories and create other alternative story forms to popular the application.
