Badger Herald Illustrations and Recruitment Efforts
The Badger Herald is a student run independent newspaper produced at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. I served as the Design Director and the Associate Design Director during my time on campus.
Illustrations
The Process:
In order to stand out from other newspapers, the Badger Herald has graphic covers that highlight the featured story of the publication.
My Role:
I work as the Design Director at the Badger Herald. In this role I work with writers to come up with illustrations to match feature articles.
Outcome:
Having illustrations allows for the publication to connect with more readers and tell the story in a new way.
Award Winning Recruitment Efforts
Process:
Each semester, the Badger Herald must recruit new students to work on the newspaper. Catching their attention through pamphlets is a strategy the Herald employs.
My Role:
I had full creative freedom to come up with a concept for the pamphlet design. I used the brand’s signature color and combined it with hand drawn images of things from around Madison to grab attention.
Outcome:
The WCMA BetterNewspaper Contest was established to recognize excellence in student journalism within the state of Wisconsin. My “Join the Badger Herald – Fall 2018” promotional flyer won first place in the competition.
