Souvenirs Magazine Marketing, Art Direction, & Writing
Souvenirs Magazine is one of six student run publications produced by the WUD Publications. Souvenirs is a travel magazine that exclusively uses photos and writing submitted by members of the UW-Madison community.
Art Direction
The Process:
Each semester, Souvenirs publishes a magazine.
My Role:
I served as the Associate Art Director for Souvenirs Spring 2019 edition and the Art Director for the Fall 2019 publication. In these roles, I am responsible for page layouts, creating promotional materials, pairing photos with stories, and work closely with the Editor in Chief.
Outcome:
The Spring 2019 issue was the first time that I was able to see my design work in print. Being able to hold the final product in my hand was an amazing experience that motivated me to pursue more opportunities in publication design and continue to improve my skills.
Marketing
Process:
In order to attract talented photographers and writers, Souvenirs magazine creates calls for submission to be posted on social media.
My Role:
I created these images by choosing exciting photos from our archive and putting them into a template that I created that uses the same style guide as the magazine.
Outcome:
During the Fall 2019 submission period, we received enough content from members of the Madison community to fill the entire magazine and populate the website.

Writing
The Process:
In Souvenirs Magazine, a student-run travel magazine where I serve as the Art Director, I realized that the Middle East is often underrepresented in the submissions that we receive. I knew I wanted to create representation for this area of the world and I knew that Art History Professor Jennifer Pruitt has a deep connection with the middle east and a story that is worth sharing.
My Role:
I interviewed the professor, wrote a 1500-word feature on Professor Jennifer Pruitt’s incredible passion for Islamic architecture and illustrated the piece.
Outcome:
Positive representation for the Middle East is incredibly important. I was able to use my platform that gets 3,000 digital impressions and prints 500 copies, to amplify her message.
